How we met (David's version)

I met Christina through an online dating site. She was actually the first person I contacted through it! After looking around for some time, I finally decided to send her a message through the site. I thought our interests matched quite well, and according to the site we had a 86% compatibility score :) I didn't hear back from her until a week or so later, but she did reply. That site also has an IM feature, so we started talking through that.
Back then, Christina used to work swing shift (3 pm - 11 pm), so she used to get home quite late. One day, it was close to midnight, and we talked about meeting somewhere that was still open. The Hotcake House was suggested, since it's open 24 hours a day (and who can say no to bacon?). Even though it was a rushed idea, it sounded fun, and we both went for it. We got there and ordered our food. Mmm, pancakes and bacon. The Hotcake House was like what you would expect on a Friday night. An interesting crowd, with the jukebox playing sometimes good, sometimes cheesy music. Good times. We were having a fun conversation, we couldn't stay there too long since it's rather crowded at that time. We then stopped by a nearby bar for a drink and more conversation, but we had to leave not long afterwards because the bar was also closing.
Not wanting to end the night there, we went to yet another place that was still open: the Fireside Coffee Lodge! We were going to hang around for a bit longer, maybe get some coffee, play a bit of Scrabble... and then it was 5 am. It was a great, very nice date, and here we are, four years later.
Unfortunately, we recently discovered that the Fireside Coffee Lodge doesn't exist anymore. The building was closed when we drove past it a few weeks ago. It's now come back as a different business (The Southeast Grind), but we'll always have the memory of that fun night.

How we met (Christina's version)

I met David on the internet! He sent me an email through a dating/social networking website in October of 2005, and after looking at his profile about twenty times I decided that he seemed like a nice guy and that I'd email him back. After we talked online for a week or so, we met spontaneously at about 1 in the morning for food, drinks, coffee, and... Scrabble. I won our epic all-night Scrabble tournament 2 games to 1, but I was very impressed with his playing, especially with English as his *third* language. Besides his Scrabble ability, he was smart, considerate, handsome, and interesting. And we had tons of common interests. I had a very good feeling about him! Even though we'd only known each other for a few hours, I was already quite smitten.
Unfortunately, I had made another date with some other guy from that same website for the next night! And after my nice date with David, I didn't even want to go. But I thought to myself "hey, I'm a single girl, playing the field, right? I can go on another date!" So off I went to meet this other guy. It was a horrible, horrible date. The guy was a total creep and actually scared me some. It was so upsetting. After I escaped, I ran home and got online, and instantly found David waiting for me. Then I realized that I wanted to see him again, as soon as possible! He totally rescued me from my bad day by meeting me back at the same coffeehouse, and I was so relieved to see him there. We talked for hours and played three more games of Scrabble. This time, he won.
Although, in the long run... I think I won. :)
